4TH CLASS

Each year, the school’s athletics programme starts in earnest with the Cross Country competition in Portmarnock. This year we had record numbers of boys taking part in the trials and were able to field 11 teams across 3 age groups from Under 10 up to Under 13 ½ . On the day, a cavalcade of cars ferried the 76 participants to the Fingal Grounds behind the Portmarnock Sports and Leisure Club. They emerged from the afternoon’s competition with 6 individual trophies including a 1st place and 3rd in the boys’ under 13 ½. All teams emerged with silverware with the Under 10s and 11s taking silver in the team event and the Under 12s and 13s claiming gold. Many thanks to the large numbers of parents who provided transport and great vocal support on the day.

We are celebrating Maths Week this week in Belgrove Senior Boys. Every morning we’ll start with the Maths Problem of the Day to wake up our sleepy brains. During the week, each class will take part in a Maths Trail around our school, working in groups to complete the activities in the classrooms, the yard and the carpark. On Thursday there will be a GIANT MATHS QUIZ in the hall for thirds and fourths, and fifths and sixths, and on Friday the senior classes will take part in Escape Rooms. 3rd classes are going to The Helix on Monday morning to see the Murderous Maths Show, and 4th classes took part in the LEGO® Challenge in Marsh’s Library last week. In a tantalising affair, the Junior Hurlers prevailed in their final match over local rivals, Scoil Assaim, by 4-3 to 4-0. Finding themselves 4 points down at halftime, the boys showed real courage, determination and heart to overturn the deficit, with no little help from an astonishing last-minute save from our goalkeeper. The team finished the year second in the league, winning four of our five matches, and amassing a total of 32 goals and 25 points over the season. Finally, massive thank you to all the boys and, of course, to all the parents, whose help and support were massively appreciated by the team and staff!
