Belgrove Win the League!

Belgrove’s senior basketball team qualified for the final after beating Gaelscoil Míde in the semi-finals before Easter. All throughout the season, our boys have played superbly, showing great skill and commitment.

The final was on Wednesday14th of April, at 12 o’clock. We faced Ballyroan, a south side team who are new to the league, but who had already built a reputation as a very difficult team to beat. Belgrove had been training hard in the run up to the big event, and were suitably focused and prepared when the ball was thrown in. Our first five played and fought their hardest. Luck was not on their side however and the score was 6-0 to Ballyroan after the first quarter. Undeterred by this, our second five turned things around almost immediately, with Cathal O’Mahony scoring our first basket of the game. Despite playing on an injured knee, Cathal gave a very impressive performance. With ball-handler Barry Davis calling the shots, Belgrove had gained the lead by halftime.

Belgrove’s domination of the game continued into the second half, with an excellent display of defence by all players preventing any notable gain from the opposition. Kevin Hughes showed excellent leadership and ball-handling skills, moving the ball around to create numerous scoring opportunities for himself and his team-mates.

The final score was 36-11 to Belgrove. Much celebration was had! Belgrove played very much as a team in their final match, with all players playing an invaluable role in the capture of the title. All 15 players on the squad can now proudly say that they play on the best primary school basketball team in Dublin.

Junior Basketball Team

This year’s basketball season has unfortunately come to a close for the Junior Basketball team. There were some great displays of skill, dedication and good teamwork in both home and away games. The team would like to thank all their supporters and give a special thank you to the parents who provided lifts.
